From 52% Post-UTME Score to First-Class Graduate: Inspiring Success Story from FUTA

First-Class Graduate

From Admission Uncertainty to Academic Excellence

In a remarkable story of determination and resilience, Muhammad Muquadam Ayuba has emerged as one of the top-performing graduates of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), achieving a First-Class degree in FUTA CLASS 2024 despite a challenging start.

Ayuba began his academic journey with a 52% score in his post-UTME screening—barely meeting the admission threshold. However, through consistent hard work, discipline, and focus, he transformed what seemed like a limitation into a powerful success story.

Finishing in the Top 10% of Over 2,700 Graduates

At the university’s convocation ceremony, Ayuba graduated with a Bachelor of Agricultural Technology (B. Agric. Tech.) in Agricultural and Resource Economics (First-Class Honours), placing him comfortably among the top 10% of over 2,700 graduating students.

His achievement highlights a key message for students: your starting point does not determine your final outcome.

The Power of Support Systems and Mentorship

Ayuba credited his success not only to personal effort but also to a strong support system. He expressed deep gratitude to his parents, who ensured he received quality education despite financial challenges.

He also acknowledged the role of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, alongside friends, mentors, and academic role models who contributed to his journey.

Special appreciation was extended to:

  • Professor Tope Fakokunde
  • Dr. Waheed Ashagidigbi
  • Dr. S. F. Arifalo

Their mentorship and guidance played a crucial role in shaping his academic success.

Scholarship Support That Made a Difference

A defining part of Ayuba’s journey was the financial assistance he received from the Abdulkabir Aliu Foundation. As a two-time recipient of the AAF Undergraduate Scholarships Programme, he received a total of ₦500,000, which significantly eased his academic journey.

A Message of Hope for Students

Reflecting on his journey, Ayuba described his achievement as “the end of a hope-instilling beginning.” His story serves as motivation for students facing academic struggles, proving that resilience, discipline, and the right support can lead to outstanding success.

“With faith and determination, the sky is only my springboard.”
