Introduction: Your One-Stop Admission Map for STEM Courses
Engineering, Environmental Sciences, and Technology programs are some of the most sought-after courses in Nigeria. The competition is fierce, and admission depends on getting every detail right—your JAMB subject combination, O’Level credits, and the specific waivers each university applies.
This definitive guide not only breaks down the general requirements but also provides the full list of universities offering each course as stated in the official JAMB Integrated Brochure. Refer to this list before filling out your JAMB form to ensure your chosen institution is approved for your desired program.
1. General Admission Requirements at a Glance
O’Level (UTME & Direct Entry)
For virtually all engineering and technology programs, you need:
- Five (5) credit passes at SSCE (WAEC, NECO, etc.) in not more than two sittings.
- Compulsory Subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
- Fifth Subject: Further Mathematics, Biology, Technical Drawing, Geography, or Agricultural Science.
UTME Subject Combination
The standard combination is:
- Use of English
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Chemistry
Exception: Computer Science, Architecture, Estate Management, Urban Planning, and Management Technology often have slight variations—these are noted under individual course sections.
Direct Entry
- A-Level (IJMB/JUPEB/GCE): Passes in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Top universities like UNILAG demand “Very good passes.”
- ND/HND: Upper Credit in a relevant engineering program from an accredited institution is the standard. Some schools accept Lower Credit.
- First Degree: B.Sc. in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, or related science with at least Second Class Lower often qualifies for 200-level admission.
Critical Waiver Alert: University of Lagos (UNILAG) consistently requires O’Level credit in Further Mathematics for most engineering courses. If you don’t have it, you are ineligible for UNILAG engineering. FUTO requires at least a Pass in Biology for nearly all engineering programs.
