From F9 to First Class: The Inspiring Story of Covenant Ojo

Some stories don’t begin with applause. They begin with heartbreak, silence, and a quiet decision to keep going anyway. The story of Covenant B Ojo is one of those stories — a powerful testimony of resilience, faith, and unexpected grace that took her from an F9 in Mathematics to a First Class degree.

Here is her journey, in her own words.

A Graduation Day She Never Attended

In 2018, Covenant completed her secondary school education with every reason to celebrate. She had served as Head Girl, emerged as the overall best student in her class, and won the award for the best student in Mathematics.

But on graduation day, while her mates wore fine clothes and walked across the stage to receive their accolades, Covenant was absent. Her parents could not afford the graduation fees or the outfit. Her awards sat waiting on a table — but she wasn’t there to claim them.

She felt the weight of that quiet pain, yet she held her head high.

The F9 That Changed Everything

Then came a bigger blow. WAEC results were released, and every subject was fine — except Mathematics. The very subject she was celebrated for came out as an F9.

“Imagine being the best math student in your set, only to see an F9 on the paper that mattered most. It felt like my world was crashing down.”

She had a choice: let the failure define her, or let it build her. She chose to fight.

Covenant took up a side job at her alma mater, saved up, and registered to resit for WAEC and NECO. The result? A credit — but only at the third attempt.

Almost Giving Up on Admission

At a point, Covenant almost gave up on chasing admission entirely. The F9 felt like a wall she couldn’t cross. But a leader in her life looked at her and said:

“Covenant, just go for it. Look for a course that doesn’t strictly require mathematics.”

She was reluctant at first, wondering if such opportunities truly existed for her. But she decided to make the attempt anyway.

She wrote JAMB. Her first attempt scored above 200, but her true breakthrough came with a score of 247. Every time she thought of that number — 24/7 — it reminded her of God’s round-the-clock faithfulness.

A Detour That Became a Destiny

Covenant applied to the University of Ibadan main campus, but after Post-UTME, she didn’t get the required score for the main campus cut-off. Just when it felt like another dead end, a friend mentioned that UI had affiliate campuses offering education courses — and that missing the main campus score didn’t mean her dream was over.

She took that leap of faith.

Then came the next mountain: finances. Her parents didn’t have much, and she kept asking herself how she would sponsor her education and survive. But she held onto the promise that He who began a good work in her would see it to completion.

And God showed up through people. Doors opened, and generous hearts in the Body of Christ stepped in to support her tuition, upkeep, and daily needs. Accommodation was also miraculously taken care of.

“God literally carried me on eagles’ wings.”

Service Alongside Study

While in school, Covenant didn’t just study — she poured her heart into service. Serving with the Deeper Life Campus Fellowship as the Sister Welfare Coordinator was one of the greatest honors of her student life. Balancing fellowship responsibilities with rigorous academics wasn’t easy, but God’s grace was sufficient.

The Result She Never Expected

Covenant completed her final papers in December 2024. Knowing how long academic processing can take, she prepared her mind for a long wait — hoping maybe by late 2025 the results would be out. But in August, the results came out much earlier than expected.

She checked, hoping for a solid 2:1 at best. That was her honest expectation.

But when she looked at the screen, she froze.

First Class.

“I stared at the screen, tears streaming down my face, and whispered, ‘God, is this really me?’ And in my heart, I could hear God saying, ‘Yes, Covenant. I am still writing your story.'”

She couldn’t hold back the tears. She immediately called her family and friends to break the news. She wept for hours — not out of sadness, but out of pure, unadulterated gratitude to the One who took a girl without a graduation gown, a girl with an F9, and crowned her efforts with total victory.

Her Message to Anyone Struggling

Covenant’s story is not just about academic success. It is a reminder that your present struggle is not your final destination.

“To anyone reading this who feels stuck in a storm: Your present struggle is not your final destination. It is the soil where your strength is grown.”

She adds:

“Going through the four corners of an institution is a milestone, but school was never meant to be your final destination. The struggles you face along the way are not meant to destroy you — they are meant to implant in you the divine strength, resilience, and character you need for the world outside.”

Her advice is simple but profound:

  • Do not let your current circumstances limit your vision.
  • Put God at the center.
  • Hold fast to your purpose and determination.
  • Never look back.

“The struggle is not your end; it is only the setup for your launch.”

Final Thoughts

Covenant B Ojo’s story didn’t end with failure. It was only the beginning of grace.

From an F9 in Mathematics to a First Class degree, her journey proves that no setback is final when faith, resilience, and determination are in the mix. If you’re in the middle of your own storm, remember: the story isn’t over yet.
